No, Missouri does not have a state law that requires a background check prior to the sale of a firearm,
but federal law requires all federally licensed firearm dealers to perform a background check before any sale of a firearm.
Missouri is not a point of contact state for firearm purchaser background checks. Licensed dealers contact the FBI before the transfer of firearms.
Missouri does not require private sellers (sellers who are not licensed dealers) to initiate a background check when transferring a firearm.
