New Mexico requires a 15 hour handgun safety course to obtain a permit. This course must have live fire instruction. Carry in a vehicle is legal, for both concealed and open carry. It is illegal to carry a loaded, concealed fire arm anywhere. This does not apply if there person is a police officer, is on property they own/lease/rent, the person has a concealed carry permit from the Department of Public Safety, or when the firearm is in a private vehicle. The cost of a CCW permit can not exceeded $100. The applicant must be 21 or over and provide 2 sets of finger prints. Permits are issued on a "shall issue" basis.
