Anyone looking to purchase an "assault weapon" must show proof of age, and proof that they are a US citizen. To get a handgun type "assault weapon" the applicant must be 21 or over. For long arm type "assault weapons" the age is 18 or over. Virginia defines "Assault weapons" as a semi-automatic, center fire, firearm equipped with a folding/adjustable stock, or equipped at the time with a magazine capable of holding 20+ rounds, or capable of accommodating a silencer/suppressor.[16]
