California's Open Carry
In some rural areas in California open carry of long guns is allowed. It must be allowed by the local government. County sheriffs may issue permits allowing owners to carry their handgun "loaded and exposed" if the county has a population of under 200,00.
What is Open Carry?
Open carry is the ability to carry a gun in plain view. Some states require a permit to open carry, and some do not, but most have restrictions on where it is legal to open carry.
