District of Columbia's Firearm Registration
Every firearm by law must be registered with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). All applicants must be 21 or older (or have signed permission from their guardians and be 18 or older). They must also take a firearms training course with a military firearms instructor or a state-certified firearms instructor. The training must have a minimum of 4 hours of classroom instruction and 1 hour of firing training. All applicants must either have a valid D.C. driver's license or pass a vision test.
What is Firearm Registration?
Most states do not require owners to register their firearms with the police. A few states only require that certain types of firearms maybe registered, such as assault weapons. Registering your firearm involves fingerprinting, recording the gun's serial number, your name, and address.
