Department of Safety (DOS) is the go-to authority for a licensed dealer when it comes to conducting a background check on the purchaser of a handgun.
To conduct a background check on the purchaser of a Long Gun by a licenced dealer the FBI is the go-to authority to have the background check done
It is not required for private sellers to conduct a background check on the purchaser when they are transferring the firearm (privately)
No person (licensed dealer and/or private seller) is allowed to sell a firearm directly to a person who have been convicted of a felony
