Connecticut has a de facto registry of long guns and handguns. This is a record of sales for both long guns and handguns, that is kept by the Department of Public Safety. This includes private sales as well as sales from dealers. Transfer of any firearm must have and authorization number that was issued to them by the Department of Public Safety. The transfer must also include a form with the recipient's weapon and personal information, given to local police, and the Department of Public Safety.
